My Story
​Cephas Lee, also known as Cephas Lobmeyer, is an up-and-coming artist studying at the University of Kansas. At a young age, he excelled at drawing and creative approaches. Growing up in a split household, Cephas relied on art to escape his chaotic family life. His love for comics, superheroes, and the stories they tell is a significant Influence to this day. After dropping out of high school and getting his GED, he moved to Missouri but lost touch with art. At this time, he was dealing with mental health issues that led him to seek help and to take a look at his future. He was given a chance to move back to his hometown to attend college, where he received a scholarship to study visual arts. This reignited his passion for art and led him to explore more ways of creating using oil paint, watercolor, and printmaking mediums. Cephas’ current work primarily focuses on figures and portraits, maintaining a strong connection to his love for color. Cephas completed his Associate of Art at Garden City Community College.
My Statement
When I was in first grade in art class we were tasked to follow along and draw Corduroy From the children’s book Corduroy. Half way through the instructions I found myself in disagreement to the direction the drawing was going, so I deviated and drew Corduroy the way I wanted to. I got many compliments from my classmates and the teacher herself. I have been chasing that high in my art ever since.
In my art I seek to find and understand relationships. The relationship between colors; the cool and the warm, the saturated and the neutrals. The relationship between the artist and their subject. Whether it be another person, or an ordinary object. The relationship of beauty and imperfection. My favorite to find and understand is the relationships of the face. The relation ship between both eyes and the nose, or the mouth and how it relates to likeness.
